Now Who Fancies A Laugh?????

I have been anonymously sent a copy of a letter handed out to Balfour Beatty employees today.

It is quite laughable what they have to say:
  • Struggling to compete - Profits in excess of £50mill in 2010
  •  Trying to scare operatives by saying about losing work
  • Claims about lay-offs and definition of shop are untrue - That is not what it says in BESNA
  • Various claims of hourly rates being cut - This is a cost cutting exercise. They are trying to save money. IF you spend less money on labour, then the labour receive less money. ITS COMMON SENSE
  • NO mention of reducing skilled tradesmens workload by 80% and getting semi skilled workers to carry it out
The leaflet and BESNA is a joke.

  1. They're right wage rates for sparks won't drop, that's not what the union are saying! They are saying that 80% of our work will be done by SMA's on £10.60odd, and with the change to where your shop/site is, you'll also loose travel expenses/time, so add all that up and you get roughly a 35% wage cut!!! DON'T BELIEVE THE BALFOUR BEATTY SMEAR MACHINE!!!

  2. IF IN FUTURE EMPLOYMENT YOU CANNOT SECURE A JOB UNDER YOUR CURRENT AGREEMENT OR GRADING:

    CURRENT PAY BASED ON 38 HOURS:

    N.A.E.C.I. ADVANCED CRAFTSMAN OR APPROVED ELECTRICIAN (INCLUDING £1.10 HOURLY BONUS) = £609.90

    N.A.E.C.I. CRAFTSMAN OR ELECTRICIAN (INCLUDING £1.10 HOURLY BONUS) = £585.96

    N.A.E.C.I. GRADE 3 OR ELECTRICIANS MATE (INCLUDING £1.10 HOURLY BONUS) = £502.36

    J.I.B. APPROVED ELECTRICIAN (OWN TRANSPORT) = £545.30

    …......OR IF YOU CAN ONLY GET A START AS AN INSTALLER UNDER BESNA (BASIC RATE £10.62) = £403.56

    DON'T FORGET CONTAINMENT IS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 40% TO 70% OF AN INSTALLATION DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF JOB. THAT MEANS 40% TO 70% EMPLOYED AND PAYED AS INSTALLERS NOT ELECTRICIANS.

  3. Balfour Beatty Say they are a direct employed company yet they employ agency labour and to pay there permanent staff off they wont change and if not stopped they will hit the N.A.E.C.I next as they are already employing agency on Hunterston and not paying the rates

  4. this is absolutely criminal. how can a company make so much profit yet demand pay cuts? Where is the money going ? Its a straight out LIE that there is not enough money. Its about time we all took a stand, even if we are not sparks ourselves, cos it will be us next!!
